Pamela Louderback, Day 48

There's a small group of students taking to the streets outside my office now.  They're walking in the direction of City Centre and City Hall.  If I had to guess, I'd venture to say it has to do with the possibility of hiking tuition fees (tripling of them -- see earlier posting regarding hikes in tuition fees).  Some students were holding flags and placards that read 'Socialist Party' -- not quite sure what exactly is behind that but I'll investigate.  The vote on whether to hike fees is to take place in less than 7 hours.  It should be interesting to see what tomorrow holds.

My second floor window is filthy with dirt on the exterior of the building so I'm not sure how well the photos will turn out.  The vote was close with the hike in tuition passing.

Police presence was also strong.  This was one of several vehicles and there were also several police officers milling about on foot.

  1. You can never have too many police officers around when there are protesters. Official action may be necessary (especially if things get out of hand).

  2. Agreed! I wish I'd taken a picture of the side of one of the police vans. You do have to be careful where you point your camera, though. The authorities had set a huge billboard against one of the stationary vehicles close to where the protest was to take place. It said something regarding unlawful gatherings.
